Does This Sound Like You?

🔸 You’ve got years of riding experience — but lately, fear and self-doubt have started to take over the joy you used to feel in the saddle.

🔸 You want to feel calm, confident, and connected with your horse again… but something always seems to hold you back.

🔸 You’ve taken lessons, gone to clinics, and done all the right things — but you still feel anxious when it’s time to ride.

🔸 You can see the confident rider you want to be… but the tension in your body keeps pulling the brakes.

You’re not alone…

Hi! I’m Abby Shpilman, a Trauma Therapist!

Back in 2019, I was struggling with anxiety and panic attacks that seemed to come out of nowhere.
Even being around my horse could make my heart race, my hands shake, and that familiar swarm of butterflies fill my stomach.

I remember standing by the mounting block, wanting so badly to ride, but feeling completely anxious. (I’ve been riding since I was 10 years old). My hands were shaking, and I had that familiar feeling of butterflies in my stomach.

My mind said, “You’re fine,” but my body said, “You’re not safe.”
And no matter how much I told myself to relax, my body wouldn’t listen.

For a long time, I believed that the only way to feel confident again was to push through.
I tried everything — lessons, clinics, mindset tricks — thinking if I just worked harder, the fear would eventually disappear.

But it didn’t.
Because fear isn’t a mindset problem — it’s a nervous system response.

When I finally stopped fighting the anxiety and started listening to what my body was trying to tell me, everything began to shift.
I learned how to regulate my nervous system, release the tension I’d been carrying for years, and rebuild trust — in myself and in my horse.

I quit the old way of “just get on and ride.”

This time, I focused on healing, not forcing.
On presence, not performance.
On creating safety, not chasing confidence.

And the result?
I didn’t just start riding again — I started enjoying it. Truly, deeply enjoying it.

That shift changed everything.
I felt calm walking into the paddock.
Grounded near the mounting block.
and for the first time in a long time — I felt present with my horse instead of trapped in my head.

And it wasn’t just me.

I’ve since helped hundreds of riders do the same — women who once felt anxious, disconnected, or ashamed of their fear — now riding with steadiness, joy, and confidence again.

After Working With So Many Riders, I’ve Realised There are Only 3 Things You Need To Start Feeling Calm & Confident

  • Understand what your body is really trying to tell you – fear isn’t the enemy, it’s communication.
  • Learn how to regulate your nervous system – because safety comes before confidence.
  • Take small, consistent steps that build trust – in your body, in your horse and in the process

That’s it.

But most riders are stuck because they’re trying to think their way out of fear.
They overcomplicate it — reading, training, trying harder — or they under complicate it — telling themselves to “just relax.”

Neither works, because both ignore the body.

When your body still feels unsafe, no amount of positive thinking or technique can override that.

That’s why my approach is different.
It’s gentle, trauma-informed. It’s built on the understanding that true confidence begins in the body — not the mind.

Most riders are stuck because they’re trying to think their way out of fear.
They overcomplicate it — reading, training, trying harder — or they under complicate it — telling themselves to “just relax.”

And then there’s the shiny object trap.
We tell ourselves, “Maybe I just need a different saddle.”
Or, “Maybe it’s this horse — if I had a quieter one, I’d feel fine.”
Or we spend hours researching new gear, new supplements, new trainers — hoping one of them will fix the anxiety.

But none of those things reach the real root of what’s happening — because the anxiety isn’t coming from your equipment or your horse.
It’s coming from a nervous system that’s still holding onto experiences that didn’t feel safe.

How Carol Is Regaining Her Confidence After A Long Break

How Gypsy Is Regaining Her Confidence After A Fall

Why This Approach Works

01

It works because most riders are told their fear is just a mindset issue.

They’re told to “think positive,” “be brave,” or “just get back on.”
But that advice ignores how the nervous system actually works.

02

It works because your body needs to feel safe before your mind can feel confident.

When your body doesn’t feel safe, no amount of positive thinking, breathing, or mindset tricks can override that.
Confidence isn’t built from pressure — it’s built from safety.

03

It works because traditional riding lessons often focus on symptoms, not the root cause.

You might learn how to control your horse, manage your anxiety, or fix your position — but that doesn’t address why your body is still reacting with tension or fear.

04

It works because my approach goes deeper — to the root cause.

We gently explore what’s really happening underneath the fear:
the stored stress, past experiences, and protective patterns that keep your body on high alert.

05

It works because we work with your body, not against it.

Instead of pushing or forcing, we help your nervous system feel safe again — so calm, connection, and confidence become your natural state, not something you have to fake.

06

It works because you learn practical strategies you can use with your horse – anywhere.

It’s not just about what happens in a session. You’ll have tools you can use when you’re grooming, floating, mounting, or out on a trail.
These body-based strategies help you settle your nerves, calm your body, and stay connected with your horse — no matter where you are.
